Terms of use
Last updated 29 October 2026.
These terms cover the Short Order iPhone app and this website, run by Short Order (“we”). The app is licensed to you under Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement; these terms add to it. By using Short Order you agree to both.
What Short Order is
A cooking app: recipes, estimated nutrition and cost, takeout comparisons, meal-prep and portioning tools, and an AI cooking helper. It is not a medical device, a diet program or professional dietary advice.
Estimates, not guarantees
- Nutrition is estimated from USDA data and depends on the brands, weights and portions you actually use.
- Takeout figures are estimates for a typical restaurant portion, not any restaurant's numbers. Restaurants vary.
- Costs use US average prices and your own prices. Your store will differ. Savings are worked out from the prices you enter.
- Protein targets are a general guide for adults. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or have dietary needs, ask your doctor or a registered dietitian.
Food safety and allergens
Follow safe food handling, cook to the safe internal temperatures shown, and refrigerate leftovers promptly. Allergen tags are computed from ingredient lists and can't account for every brand or cross-contact. Always check the labels of what you buy. You are responsible for what you cook and serve.
AI features
Nonna (AI) and the other AI features generate answers with a language model. Answers can be wrong or incomplete; treat them as a draft and check before cooking. Nonna is a fictional AI character, not a person. Don't rely on AI answers for allergy, medical or safety decisions. Use the AI features for cooking only, don't try to make them produce harmful content, and use Report this reply if something looks wrong. We may limit daily use to keep the service running.
Subscriptions (Short Order Pro)
Short Order is free to download with a free tier. Short Order Pro unlocks every method and cook mode, Nonna (AI), prep sessions and the Fridge, Split the Pot, week auto-fill and Use it up, unlimited saved imports and three more color themes. You can get it as an optional auto-renewing subscription (weekly, monthly or yearly) or as a one-time Lifetime purchase. All four options unlock the same Pro features.
| Plan | Price (US) | Free trial |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly | $3.99 per week | No trial |
| Monthly | $11.99 per month | 3 days, for eligible new subscribers |
| Yearly | $39.99 per year (about 72% less than 12 months of the monthly plan) | No trial |
| Lifetime | $79.99 once; it never renews | No trial |
- Prices are in US dollars. The App Store shows the price in your currency, including any taxes, before you confirm; that price applies.
- Only the monthly plan has a free trial. Eligibility is decided by Apple (generally once per Apple Account). If you start a trial, you're charged $11.99 when the 3 days end unless you cancel at least 24 hours before, and then each month until you cancel.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase, or when the trial ends.
- Lifetime is a single non-renewing purchase tied to your Apple Account. Restore it in the app's Settings on a new phone.
- Once, after you close the plans without buying, the app may offer the yearly plan for less for 15 minutes: $27.99 per year, a separate yearly plan in the same subscription group that renews at $27.99 until you cancel. The 15 minutes are real and the offer is never shown again.
- Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period at the then-current price unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- Manage or cancel any time in Settings › your name › Subscriptions (Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions) on your iPhone. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for.
- Any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Restore purchases in the app's Settings if you reinstall or change phones.
- If we change a price, Apple notifies you as its rules require, and you can cancel before the change takes effect.
Your content
Recipes, photos and notes you import stay yours and stay on your phone. Only import content you have the right to use for your own cooking. When you send something to an AI feature, you give us permission to process it to answer you.
Our content
The recipes, photos, text, design and software are ours or our licensors'. You may cook from them and share links. You may quote small parts of this site's data, such as the protein per dollar table, with a link back. USDA and BLS source data are public domain.
No affiliation
Order names are generic dish names. Short Order is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any restaurant, chain or delivery service.
Disclaimers and liability
Short Order is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for harm from relying on estimates or AI answers instead of labels, thermometers and professional advice. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded.
Changes and ending
We may update these terms; the date at the top will change, and continuing to use Short Order means you accept the update. You can stop using Short Order at any time by deleting the app and cancelling any subscription.
